Why Avida is a staunch advocate of OPM

ORIGINAL PILIPINO MUSIC (OPM) is the soundtrack of our lives. That’s something many Filipinos easily take for granted—but just think: what better way to feel hope and inspiration than to hear “Umagang Kay Ganda” in the morning? How could we express romantic love if we didn’t have “Harana”?

2nd leg of the “Tunog Natin!” Concert Series: The Fight for OPM's Survival Continues

Last Saturday, July 23, 2011 at 7PM, I was thrilled to grace the 2nd leg of the “Tunog Natin!” Concert Series. We all know that Original Pilipino Music (OPM) is fighting for the hearts and minds of Filipinos. Well, that struggle brought together Filipino artists and audiences at the grounds of Avida Towers Centera along Edsa.Ironically, the struggle took a celebratory form, showcasing the genius of Filpino singers, musicians and composers. It’s a tribute and a reminder of how important OPM is to all of us.

OPM boyband 1:43 translates online popularity to phenomenal album sales

OPM pop sensation 1:43 (pronounced as “one forty-three”) rule the local record bars with their debut album “Time for Love” by consistently being on the top 10 bestselling OPM album charts since it was launched in April.

Now on its third print, the slambum or slambook-album under MCA Music continuously rakes sales and competes with the records of popular OPM artists despite having minimal television and radio exposures. In fact, it landed on the No. 2 spot in Odyssey’s top OPM albums last April. “Time for Love” currently enjoys the No. 4 spot in the Best-selling OPM Album Chart of Astroplus.

FIREPROOF: Never Leave Your Partner Behind

Having had bad days and frustrations over the past days, my heart cries out for some encouragement. I was browsing through the tv channels when my attention was caught by HBO's next movie on the line up entitled "FIREPROOF". At first, I was second guessing if that's the movie I have watched at the church for about a year now. Checked it out and I was right!

The first line of the main character made a great impact on me. "Never leave your partner especially in a fire."..Well, for starters, this movie is about a couple struggling to keep their marriage bonds intact for years but to no avail. Until the wife decides to push for divorse. Husband was persuaded by his father to give it 40 days before agreeing to her partners decision. He was given a love diary with 40 days on how to woo her wife back-from giving her flowers to fixing her coffee. It was on the process that he realized that He just cannot give his wife something he doesn't have-LOVE. He must first come into receiving God, accepting His forgiveness and understand that He has been loved unconditionally in the midst of his stubborness.

Grasping the full scope of his commitment with his wife and God, he then continues to do the 40-day challenge and still does it even though the list ended. Until he won her back, and his acts made way for her wife to receive Christ too.
